Lets bring Smoking Back

Back in a time when kids could go to school, and people could go to
church and concerts without worrying about being shot, people smoked
cigarettes, cigars and pipes.

Now smoking seems to be a curse, and is frowned upon. Not to mention
banned in many places. And if you listen to medical profesionals,
smoking is the cause of everything from cancer to car wrecks and
tornados.

Maybe we need to go back to smoking. Smoking satisfies, and relieves
stress from people's lives. In some ways, it seems that smoking made
people more peaceful and loving. The time has come to bring back
smoking, and get rid of all the bans.

Sure smoking is not healthy, but it kills a lot slower than gunshots. As
well as all the fear we encounter these days from crazed armed lunatics.

Please join me. Lets smoke to happiness....
(And yes, I DO have a light if you need one, friend!)

Years ago a friend of mine died in a car wreck. His wife told me that
she was interviewed (by whom I'm afraid I don't remember.), and one of
the questions she was asked was whether her husband smoked. She
replied "yes" and then watched the person check "smoking related" on
the cause of death form.

So how many "smoking related" deaths are REALLY smoking related?

Without seeing that form, it's hard to tell if the box was labeled
"smoking related" or simply "smoker". The former could refer to the
cause of the accident, while the latter could be a statistical question
about the person, unrelated to the accident. The rest of the overall
context of the question is also unknown.

Go figure Marijuana which is also smoked is better for you that tobacco.

Another example of a society that is so screwed up that it thinks that
it is OK to kill a baby after it is born if a doctor does it but if you
or I do it it is murder.

Whereas I know by hearsay about babies being "allowed to die", in one
case a hermaphrodite born to a relative of a colleague, I don't think it
is legal either in the UK or North America to actually kill one, or
anywhere for that matter.

There is a move by the liberal component in the US to remove those
protections from babies born during unsuccessful abortion.

The story is the mother and the Doctor intended the baby to be dead,
therefore nothing should be done to save the baby.

I've been around both and marijuana is definitely preferable.

Thats a bunch of bull. Marijuana is NOT better than tobacco. In many
ways I think its better than alcohol though. But marijuana turns people
into brainless zombies with no desire to accomplish anything. On the
other hand tobacco smokers have no mental loss, and no changes at all in
their work and routine. If anything they are harder workers because
tobacco is a slight stimulant.

Until it gives them lung cancer or emphysema or other horrible chronic

Well, in the USA, if you are legally drunk and sitting at a red light in
your vehicle and some sober person rear ends you, the accident is classified
as 'alcohol related'.
That's why stats become so misleading.
The 'closet' people like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, love those
statistics.

if you are driving too *slow*, it's classified as speed related.

I believe everyone has a right to go to hell in their own way, beit
drugs, assisted suicide, eating at McDonalds, etc.. There should be
no limits placed on people's behavior for "their own good," or to
assuage the twisted fantasies of some religious ninnies and what
pisses off their imaginary gods.

The only limit I would impose is that you not be allowed to abrogate
the rights of others in your own journey to extinction. And that does
include second hand smoke (sorry about that) but taxes on cigarettes
should not be levied with the justification that it is a sin-tax.

Statistically, smokers do have significantly more car wrecks, and
insurance companies will use any excuse to up the premiums. That's a
gray area IMO, by smoking and driving you do run the risk of harming
others, but should insurance companies be allowed to use it as an
excuse to raise rates?

A British tv presenter, Roy Castle, died of lung cancer though he did
not smoke. He had been a jazz trumpeter, and had inhaled other people's

Or he may have lived in a house with a radon gas problem, etc.. "A
non-smoker, he blamed his illness on passive smoking during his years
of playing the trumpet in smoky jazz clubs." --Wikipedia

Epidemiological evidence does provide some indications of what is
harmful, but it isn't absolute proof. The best thing to do is avoid
the situations that seem risky.

And people are different too. One may have a genetic pre-disposition
to certain diseases, for instance; but unless subjected to an
environmental factor they may never get the disease.

Then we have corporate greed, politics, and stupidity...

Personally I think smoke, no matter how it is ingested is bad, and I
plan to avoid breathing the stuff.
